One title, many arenas

The Bull Races, Explained

PBR ranks bulls in several competitions at once — a premier tour, a team league, development circuits, and national series on three continents. They're all real races, but only one of them decides the World Champion Bull. Here's the map.

The title race

Unleash The Beast Decides the World Champion Bull

PBR's premier US tour — the top bulls against the top riders. This is the race that decides the PBR World Champion Bull title each season. Our champions archive tracks this award. Bulls earn their ranking through performance scores at premier-series events across the season, with the title settled at the World Finals.

The other races

PBR Team Series

The summer team league (June–October), with its own bull race.

A separate competition ranked by best-eight (WCBB) average. It is the live bull race after each Unleash The Beast title is decided.

Touring Pro Division

PBR's grassroots US tour — where careers start.

A developmental circuit. Scores here build a bull’s record and reputation but do not decide the world title.

Velocity Tour

The mid-tier US expansion tour.

A proving ground between Touring Pro and the premier series. World-title contenders often pass through on the way up.

Challenger Series

The newest US development tour (since 2022).

Another rung on the ladder to the premier series; results here do not count toward the world title.

PBR Australia

PBR's Australian national circuit.

Crowns its own national champion bull. Standouts occasionally cross over to US competition.

So which numbers matter?

For the world title: only premier-series (Unleash The Beast) performance counts. A bull can dominate Brazil or the Velocity Tour and still hold no world-title points — those circuits are where reputations are built and contracts to the big tour are earned.

For a bull's career record: everything counts. The career statistics on our bull profiles — outs, buckoff percentage, average and high scores — cover every recorded out across every series, because an 8-second war in Tulsa's Touring Pro is the same athletic feat as one in Las Vegas.

For "who's the best right now": during the premier season, watch the title race. After the title is decided, the Team Series race carries the live action until the next season begins.
